Great value family city break hotel

We arrived for our 3 night mini break to Edinburgh and were impressed by the modern look of the entrance and reception. The greeting was friendly and informative we were given a fact sheet about the hotel which explained everything we needed to know including information on the bus into the city. The breakfast was of high quality and the attentive service second to none by the restaurant staff. They all had a not a problem can do attitude which was a very welcome change from some of the hotels in the south of the U.K. We have stayed in. The bar staff were equally polite and attentive and quality of the bar food was very good. We made use of the lovely swimming pool in the basement and gym facilities which were all included in the room rate. The room was large and comfortable with tea and coffee with a view over the Firth of Forth in the distance as the hotel is on a hill. The rooms also had been re furnished recently but to make the look complete the old mahogany veneered doors should also have been replaced for newer modern doors. The floors were a bit squeaky too which was annoying at night when visiting the bathroom! All in all though if you are looking for reasonably priced warm place to stay I would recommend the hotel and the staff really made our stay pleasant.

8th stay this year

We use the Capital Hotel regularly as the centre for our business stays while on Edinburgh. The staff are always welcoming and helpful. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable, with all the required facilities. The restaurant is well worth a visit and if you're feeling particularly brave there's the fitness suite and swimming pool. There is plenty of adequate parking, even for a large vehicle such as ours. If you're thinking of visiting Edinburgh, it's well worth a try.

Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. Room was cleaned daily. Everything in room was comfortable. View from room was amazing:) Wi-fi in room needs to be improved (only downside to our stay) since communication with family/friends is limited this way. Overall, great experience. Back Again

As a regular business visitor to Edinburgh we find the Capital Hotel to be excellently located, the standard of accommodation and facilities are consistently very good and the staff to be friendly and extremely helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh as a tourist (the Christmas Markets and fairs where excellent this year) and as a business centre ideally located for both the City and Airport. We will certainly be coming back again soon.

Regular Visitor on Business.

I would easily be able to recommend this Hotel to anyone looking for a well placed base for which to visit Edinburgh. The staff are always a treat to meet when you have just travelled a long distance, they make you feel welcome and have always been willing to go that extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. The facilities are of a high standard, excellent restaurant, comfortable bar, and if you are that way inclined the fitness centre has all the kit you need and there is also relaxing pool. We have stayed at this hotel seventeen times this year and are looking forward to staying again before the end of the year. Give it a go, you won't be disapointed.

Shopping tip: Not Applicable

When leaving Scotland, always try to spend all your paper money before crossing the border into England. Because, although Scotish money is legal tender in England don't be surprised if shopkeepers ask the question "what is this" when you try to spend it.

Capitol Stay

A good stay at the Capitol, location is good, there is a bus stop around the corner with only 20 minutes to downtown. Beds are a little firm, there is no air conditioner in room so it gets a litlle warm during the night. Free car parking is a plus however the spots are small and tight. Food in the restaurant/bar is good.

Paid for breakfast

The only thing we were disappointed in was not getting our packed breakfast. We had paid for our breakfast and had to leave early to catch our plane so we arranged for a packed cold breakfast to be ready for us at the desk at 5;45 am when we checked out. It wasn't there and after waiting 5 min. while they checked with the kitchen we were told they knew nothing about and could we wait until it was put together. Of course we could not and that is why we had pre-ordered it. We felt gipped. We feel that a refund is in order.

great room, average staff

Nice hotel, slightly isolated though, 30min bus ride to the city. Room was great, spacious and clean. However wasnt impressed by the staff. Some had a bit of attitude, were not very helpful when asked how to get somewhere, the "free' breakfast voucher was actually a 2 pounds discount on an overpriced and average 12 pounds buffet.

Although hotel staff may encourage you to get the 1.5 pound single bus ticket to get to the city, spending 3.5 for the day pass is def worth it.
