First visit but not the last

For our first trip to Edinburgh we wanted a hotel that was in easy walking distance of as many of the attractions as possible but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of a 24 hour city to provide a quiet and peaceful retreat at the end of the day. This hotel proved to be just that. Apart from taking a bus to visit the Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith, we were able to walk to everywhere we wanted to go and enjoy the architecture and atmosphere of this beautiful city. We initially thought the cost of the breakfast was a little on the high side but booked it anyway. In fact it was excellent value for money with a great choice of hot and cold options. There was an occasional wait for cooked items but as they were being freshly prepared it would be pointless to make this a complaint, especially as the constant supply of toast filled in the time very nicely. It was my Birthday during our stay and was offered a free speciality coffee at breakfast, a nice and unexpected surprise. Our room was very well set out, with a corner sofa and 2nd TV, extremely comfortable bed, nicely laid out bathroom and prompt daily cleaning and replenishing of linen and toiletries. We were also impressed by every member of staff we encountered who all seemed to enjoy being there as much as us. The free facility to leave our luggage safely at the hotel after checkout was a real bonus and gave us some extra time to enjoy before our late afternoon train. We will visit Edinburgh again and would have no hesitation in booking a stay at Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel.

Great location, comfortable room but poor bar and limited parking

This hotel is located right in the middle of Grassmarket in Edinburgh which is ideal for exploring the city and a very nice location. The parking spaces were limited which meant that once you had a place you didn't want to move or use the car in case you could not get back in. The bar was dark, drafty and unwelcoming and only used once as a result. However the room was clean and comfortable and our stay was generally very pleasant.

Great situation

Very much enjoyed our stay in this hotel. Great situation for enjoying the highlights of Edinburgh - all within walking distance. The rooms was just okay - very uncomfortable as there is no air con and windows only open a couple of cm. thankfully there was a fan but it's noise spoilt our sleep. This sound may sound mean but hotel IS 4 star and is not cheap. Breakfast is great - really enjoyed it - great choice

Castle view

The staff were friendly and helpful, the room had everything we needed and the view of the castle from our room was a great bonus, especially when it's still light at 10.30pm. Lots of restaurants, cafés and hotels nearby and the hop on, hop off bus stopped right out the front.

Lovely staff, stuffy room

The staff were charming and helpful, the location great, and room a model of cleanliness. When I had a problem with Wifi, I was immediately put onto 24-hour IT helpdesk, who resolved it for me in minutes. BUT the window of the room would not open more than a few inches, and it was utterly airless. I had to sleep with an electric fan on all night, which was a waste of energy, and made it hard to get to sleep because of the noise. Why the obsession with windows that don't open properly? The room must have been over 30 degrees, which is just daft.

Fantastic hotel experience

Fast check in and added bonus of car park as we thought we would have to park on the street. We stayed in the suite which was fantastic, the perfect way to end our holiday in Scotland. Breakfast times were great as we were able to get up later and the dining experience was second to none . The hotel was ideal for shopping, eating and bars.

I was staying in Edinburgh for a weekend, the Apex city is in a great location and we were put in a room at the back of the hotel which didn't get any noise from night time revellers.
