Great location, comfortable room but poor bar and limited parking

This hotel is located right in the middle of Grassmarket in Edinburgh which is ideal for exploring the city and a very nice location. The parking spaces were limited which meant that once you had a place you didn't want to move or use the car in case you could not get back in. The bar was dark, drafty and unwelcoming and only used once as a result. However the room was clean and comfortable and our stay was generally very pleasant.

Castle view

The staff were friendly and helpful, the room had everything we needed and the view of the castle from our room was a great bonus, especially when it's still light at 10.30pm. Lots of restaurants, cafés and hotels nearby and the hop on, hop off bus stopped right out the front.

Lovely staff, stuffy room

The staff were charming and helpful, the location great, and room a model of cleanliness. When I had a problem with Wifi, I was immediately put onto 24-hour IT helpdesk, who resolved it for me in minutes. BUT the window of the room would not open more than a few inches, and it was utterly airless. I had to sleep with an electric fan on all night, which was a waste of energy, and made it hard to get to sleep because of the noise. Why the obsession with windows that don't open properly? The room must have been over 30 degrees, which is just daft.

Fantastic hotel experience

Fast check in and added bonus of car park as we thought we would have to park on the street. We stayed in the suite which was fantastic, the perfect way to end our holiday in Scotland. Breakfast times were great as we were able to get up later and the dining experience was second to none . The hotel was ideal for shopping, eating and bars.

Superb location

I was staying in Edinburgh for a weekend, the Apex city is in a great location and we were put in a room at the back of the hotel which didn't get any noise from night time revellers.

Good for Weekend City Break

Excellent central location in the Grassmarket under the walls of the Castle within easy walking distance of the Royal Mile and New Town. Smartly presented room was good value when booking in advance on line. My only grumbles would be that breakfast was not included (£10 extra which is a little steep) and the temperature in the room was uncomfortably hot. Overall, recommended.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The new Castle cafe has the best view in Edinburgh, looking out over Princes Street and the Firth from a great height. Not to be missed if you go to the Castle. Remember the 1 o clock gun is silent on Sundays.
