Writer's Museum hotels
Scotland is a country known for its literary giants. The Writers’ Museum in Edinburgh is a celebration of three such giants. The museum features artefacts and interesting memorabilia of Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson, who form the holy trinity of Scottish writers. The collection features personal items, first edition books and portraits of the three writers, all of which are housed inside the historic Lady Stair’s House, an early 17th-century mansion once owned by Elizabeth, Dowager Countess of Stair. The Writers’ Museum is a must-visit for those interested in the rich literary history of Scotland.
- Stroll around the Makars’ Court, a tranquil public space next to the Writers’ Museum in Edinburgh, where inscribed flagstones recognize Scottish writers from the 14th century to present day.
- Explore the Robert Burns collection in the Writers’ Museum, where you will find a host of interesting artefacts, including the desk where he penned some of his most famous works.
- Take an adventure while in Edinburgh with a visit to the Robert Louis Stevenson collection, where portraits, photographs and personal possessions tell the tale of Stevenson’s fascinating and exciting life.
The Writers’ Museum is located very close to the famous Royal Mile in Edinburgh, so getting there is easy using public transportation or simply by walking. If walking from Edinburgh Castle, just follow the sign that says Lady Stair's Close to get to the Writers’ Museum. Those arriving by train should get off at the Waverley Station that is just a short walk from the museum. There are also several bus routes that snake through the area, so getting there should not be a problem.
