Riccarton, below Edinburgh, is home to Heriot-Watt University and a football training camp for the Hearts of Midlothian. A historic professional school, Heriot-Watt University is renowned for successful alumni and top research. The Hearts were founded in the 19th Century and enlisted together as McCrae's Battalion in World War I. The championship team has played at Tynecastle Stadium since 1886. They were joined in 2011 by the Scotland women’s national football team. In more ancient times, Riccarton, in East Ayrshire, was a family seat of Scotland’s famous war hero, Sir William Wallace. Sir William fought Edward I for Scottish independence.
