Located just to the north of Edinburgh in Scotland lies the quaint and unassuming town of Pilrig, named after a peel tower on the ridge that is no longer standing. Visitors to this small but cosy suburb can enjoy a number of green spaces perfect for wandering, including the Pilrig Park and the more sedate Rosebank Cemetery. The Pilrig House is an impressive and fascinating building that once belonged to the family of author Robert Louis Stevenson, and can now be hired out by the room. A final consideration for thirsty travellers is the City Limits Pub.
- Walk along the beautiful well-cultivated grounds of Pilrig Park, one of the most picturesque locations in Edinburgh and a city known for its lush scenery, before exploring the Pilrig House’s gardens
- Visit the sombre but impacting graves at the immaculate Rosebank Cemetery in Edinburgh and admire the sweet inscriptions, bouquets of flowers, and touching memorials left by loved ones who frequent the area.
- Take in a pint and a meal at the restorative City Limits gastro-pub, which used to be known as the Boundary Bar, as it is on the edge of Pilrig and Leith.
It is a simple thing to reach Pilrig Park or Pilrig House as they both lie on a major bus route of Pilrig Street, which features the services of the bus number 11. Cross-street Bonnington Road also has regular bus service from the number 36. Many visitors to Pilrig and Edinburgh choose to use private vehicles to get around, so taxis and hired cars are suitable substitutes. It is a short ride for travellers coming from Edinburgh central; take the N22 double-decker Lothian Bus to Pilrig Street and walk to the park. The trip takes roughly seven minutes.
