People's Story hotels
Whilst many museums focus on the most famous figures throughout history, often times the stories of common citizens are lost throughout the years. However, the unique People's Story Museum seek to preserve these life histories. Located in Edinburgh, the museum seeks to tell the story of ordinary people, starting from the late eighteenth century to the present with a variety of exhibits, which are housed within the museum's 3 galleries. Stories are told through recordings, reconstructions of typical home and workspaces, as well as photographs and letters. To complete the experience, watch a documentary in the film screening room.
- Begin a tour by admiring the Edinburgh People's Story Museum's collection of banners and flags, which highlight the various calls for reformation, political agendas, and represent historic trade unions.
- Don’t miss the film portion of the museum, which tells the story of four ordinary people who were born and raised in Edinburgh, and still live and work there.
- To help bring the museum exhibits to life, the People's Story features many wax figures dressed in historic clothing styles.
The People's Story Museum is located within the historic Canongate Tolbooth building along Canongate in the Royal Mile area of Edinburgh. Many local city tours provide stops near the museum, as well as routes to various attractions throughout the city. Public buses are a reliable and cost effective way of travelling to the famous building; Lothian Buses and First Buses operate an efficient, convenient service to the museum. Taxis are also an excellent, though pricier, option. For those staying near the museum, cycling is a great alternative to public transport, and bicycles are available for rent for reasonable prices.
