Parliament House hotels
The Parliament House of Edinburgh, Scotland is an amazing columned structure located in Old Town, a short distance from the Royal Mile. Parliament House was once the location of the pre-union parliament of Scotland but now houses the Supreme Courts of the country. Parts of the structure were built by King Charles I in the 17th century, who hoped the dramatic hammer beam roof would emulate the one found at Stirling Castle, the previous home of the courts. The classical façade of the building provides an impressive front to Parliament Square and is one of the most majestic structures in town.
- Visit the imposing Parliament Hall within the building to marvel at the magnificent high roof made of Scandinavian Oak and the large portraits of former Edinburgh judges.
- Visit Edinburgh in September when the Parliament House puts on mock trials that offer both a historical and modern interpretation of a typical court session in Scotland.
- Take a guided ghost tour through the Parliament House and get treated to a fun and sometimes spooky historical lesson about the ghosts of criminals and solicitors that are said to haunt the halls.
Parliament House is situated at the centre of the city’s Old Town section so it is easy to reach using the city’s network of public transportation. You can get bus transfers directly from the Edinburgh Airport to Old Town, where you will find that the building is within walking distance of most hotels and attractions. Waverly station is one of the main hubs for rail travel in Edinburgh and is only a short five-minute walk from the Parliament House. The building is also a short walk from the main bus station.
