Outlook Tower hotels
Outlook Tower is located on the Royal Mile across from Edinburgh Castle, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Maria Short installed the Camera Obscura in this former townhouse in the 1850’s. She operated the entire facility as a scientific museum. The structure became known as “Outlook Tower” in 1892, when Patrick Geddes purchased it and invited the public to view Short’s unique piece of photographic technology. The building then went through several changes of ownership. Today, the one-of-a-kind camera sits atop the building’s top floor. The World of Illusions, world-renowned as a magical illusionary museum, occupies the rest of the fascinating building.
- Check out Outlook Tower’s Camera Obscura and its virtual tour of Edinburgh, along with galleries that showcase pinhole photography and holograms.
- Marvel at the wonders in the World of Illusions at Outlook Tower, as well as its interactive exhibits such as a giant vortex tunnel, “shrink and grow room,” magic gallery, and inimitable light show.
- Watch people on the Edinburgh Vision’s view cams, located in Outlook Tower, which you can control to follow unsuspecting subjects as they go about their daily business.
