The district of Newington is located in the southern part of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dating back to the 17th century, it is now a large residential community for college students due to its close proximity to the University of Edinburgh. However, Newington also offers plenty of attractions for visitors to the city, including restaurants, pubs, and cultural venues. One of the unique features about this district is its distinct small-town feel that has remained over the years partially due to the quaint local boutiques, such as Steptoes and Armstrong’s, and the community’s traditional festivals including the Scottish New Year celebration, Hogmanay.
