The district of Newington is located in the southern part of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dating back to the 17th century, it is now a large residential community for college students due to its close proximity to the University of Edinburgh. However, Newington also offers plenty of attractions for visitors to the city, including restaurants, pubs, and cultural venues. One of the unique features about this district is its distinct small-town feel that has remained over the years partially due to the quaint local boutiques, such as Steptoes and Armstrong’s, and the community’s traditional festivals including the Scottish New Year celebration, Hogmanay.

- Take in a live performance at The Queen’s Hall in Newington, a live venue that hosts musical concerts from pop artists and classical symphonies.
- Plan a hiking trip up to Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano located in Newington, to get a breathtaking view of all of Edinburgh from a height of over 250 metres.
Newington is serviced by the Edinburgh International Airport, which is about 16 kilometres outside the city limits. From the airport, international visitors may take the Airlink Express shuttle service into the town centre at Edinburgh, or they may board the less expensive public Lothian bus system to get downtown. Once in the Newington area, public transportation is provided by several bus routes, including the N22 and the 100. Guests who stay in hotels near the Newington district will be able to walk to several of the local hotspots along the main road.
