Newbridge is a small and green suburb of Edinburgh, Scotland that is located just south of Kirkliston not far outside of the city centre. It has evolved from a sparsely populated village to the home of the Edinburgh Airport that is well connected to the rest of the city. Even though it is near the airport, Newbridge has not changed much over the years and still maintains most of its small town charm due to a distinct lack of chain restaurants and modern buildings. With a population of 1013 people, the neighbourhood is a pleasant place to spend an afternoon.
- Enjoy a large glass of frosty amber beer at the Newbridge Inn, a 17th century pub with a massive beer garden that invites thirsty revellers from all over Edinburgh.
- Stop at the Newbridge Chip Shop on the main road to enjoy a deliciously greasy plate of fish and chips, one of the most popular dishes in Edinburgh and in the entire UK.
- Climb to the top of Huly Hill where you will find a well-preserved Bronze Age burial cairn amid a grassy knoll that offers great views of the city below.
At the centre of Newbridge lies a roundabout that is a junction for the M8 and M9 motorways, so getting to here by car is very easy. This roundabout is extremely busy at peak hours so should be avoided by those who don’t want to deal with traffic. Since Newbridge is only a few kilometres from the main terminal of the Edinburgh Airport, many people choose to stay nearby for easy access to the airport. The town is also serviced by many bus lines from Edinburgh and is the western terminus of tramline 2.
