Museum of Scotland
Visitors will appreciate the diversity of the Museum of Scotland as they explore nature, art, world cultures, and the history of Scotland, not to mention some of the country’s most groundbreaking science and technology displays. Nestled amidst Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, the museum features new, culturally-informed exhibitions every few weeks, a dynamism and variety that famously attracts thousands of admirers to the Museum of Scotland every year. Included within the museum’s beautifully-restored facilities—reopening to much acclaim in July of 2011—are ancient fossils, cutting-edge technological inventions, and just about everything in-between, making the Museum of Scotland a destination sure to spark the interest of any member of the family.
- Explore different cultures of the world, as well as Edinburgh’s local life, in the Window on the World gallery, which stretches from the ground floor all the way up the roof.
- Admire the incredible 5-metres-long and life-sized Tyrannosaurus Rex as well as the second and third century Egyptian mummy masks located in the Museum of Scotland, and get a taste of some very old history.
- Enjoy a light lunch of sandwiches or home baked foods in the Balcony Café overlooking Edinburgh’s sprawling landscapes.
The Museum of Scotland is located in the historic part of Edinburgh known as Old Town, just a short walking distance from the Royal Mile, which leads to the castle. Buses go through the city centre and stop at the George IV Bridge and South Bridge, the latter of which is located a short walking or biking distance from the museum. The Museum of Scotland is located on Chambers Street, also located just a short walking distance from Waverly train station. Visitors opting to drive over Edinburgh’s efficient public transit will find plenty of available parking nearby at NCP Quartermile.
