Mortonhall is an area of Edinburgh, Scotland that is situated on the southern edge of the city along the western end of the Frogston Road. It was once an affluent country estate owned by the Trotter family, who constructed a spectacular mansion there in 1769. However, Mortonhall has been continually inhabited since the Roman invasion of the first century, and this rich history is evidenced by a bevy of historic structures and ruins representing different time periods. Now this pleasant rural area is mostly known for its crematorium and caravan site where holidaymakers can enjoy the verdant beauty.
- See an outstanding example of modern Edinburgh architecture on a tour of the Mortonhall Crematorium, a unique structure designed by Sir Basil Spence, one of Scotland’s most celebrated modern architects.
- Watch your ball disappear into the never-ending green of Edinburgh during a round of golf at the local Golf Club, a nicely manicured course that will challenge even experienced golfers.
- Take a tour of Morton House, the dower house to Mortonhall, and you can enjoy the impressive architecture of this ornate structure that was built in 1702.
