If you are interested in the legendary haunted core of Edinburgh, then Meadowbank is a perfect place to stay for its proximity to the oldest parts of the city. Whilst St Giles Cathedral may not be haunted, having stood since the 12th century, it really looks the part with its aged stone façade and striking spire. You have to go deeper inside the Meadowbank suburb for the real thrills, however; that means descending underground into the purportedly haunted tunnels of the Edinburgh Vaults, which are best explored with entertaining guides, such as those found at Mary King's Close, the underworld's official entrance.
- Stroll beautiful Holyrood Park and climb Arthur's Seat, an old volcanic hill from which you can enjoy the best views of Meadowbank and the surrounding Edinburgh countryside.
- Tour the Medieval city centre amidst the eerie light of dusk via a ghost tour of the Royal Mile, which spans from Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
- Admire the amazing painted ceiling and antique furnishings of 17th-century Gladstone's Land, which offers an authentic view of what Old Town Edinburgh was like during its heyday.
Edinburgh Airport is only fourteen kilometres from Meadowbank using the A8 motorway; depending on the time of day you travel, you can make this trip via bus numbers 5, 26, 44, and 100. Other ways to get into the city include coach, train, ferry, or car. There are cruise ships that dock at nearby Leith in the summer time as well. You can get around Meadowbank using a number of public transportation options, including suburban rail, public bus, tram, and taxi. Because you can get around by foot or bike easily, many travellers recommend leaving your car parked at your hotel.
