Jock's Lodge hotels
Jock's Lodge is a neighbourhood in Edinburgh, on the northeast of Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat. It's near the centre of Edinburgh, but also the sea of Portobello. The area's name dates back to 1650, but its exact origin is unclear. One of the main theories is that Jock was the name of a shepherd who lived in a small house in the area, possibly situated in the line dividing what is now London Road and Restalrig. This is not a very touristy area, so visitors get the unique chance to mingle with the locals.
- Spend an evening in Jock's Lodge pub, one of the most famous pubs in Edinburgh, which has been recently refurbished, and now offers a great place to spend a cold evening.
- On a nice, sunny day, take a stroll up to Arthur's Seat or around Holyrood Park and enjoy the magnificent views over the city of Edinburgh.
- Take the bus down to the beach of Portobello and spend a day with the family engaging in all sorts of fun activities on the sand.
Getting to Jock's Lodge is easy and most buses from the City Centre will get you there in less than 10 minutes. Take Lothian lines 44 or 26 or First lines 113, 124, X8, or X6 from Princes Street; they are very regular, so anytime you need to get to the area it shouldn't be difficult. If you're coming from the Edinburgh Turnhouse Airport, take line 100 to the centre, and from there, another bus to Jock's Lodge. There are also taxis available at all times, so if you're carrying luggage, just hop into a taxi.
