Holyrood is located in Edinburgh, the lovely capital of Scotland. It is to the east of the city centre, closer to the North Sea at the end of the Royal Mile, the main thoroughfare. Visitors to Edinburgh will tour the commanding presence of the Scottish Parliament Building, the ruins of Holyrood Abbey, green and majestic Holyrood Park, the Moray House School of Education (many other historic buildings of the old world are still in operation), clock towers, and monuments. The area is a well-populated area full of residencies, so anyone interested in Scottish culture will enjoy meeting the colourful people there.
- Relax in the fantastic hotels offering luxurious rooms and spa treatments like MacDonald Hotel & Resort in Holyrood.
- Become acquainted with the cultural history of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, the oldest street, as you tour the streetwise exhibitions and panoramic viewfinders.
- Take the amazing hike through Holyrood Park (or Queen’s Park/King’s Park depending on the gender of the ruling personage) and climb the Salisbury Crags, seeing the whole city and the dramatic Scottish coastline.
Holyrood is approximately a brisk 15-minute walk from the city centre. There are many cycling and walking routes so the means of transport is optional and not a problem. Local bus routes within Edinburgh are Lothian Buses’ No. 35 & 36, or you can board Edinburgh city sight-seeing bus tour. The nearest railway station is Waverley station in the city centre. To get here from the Edinburgh Airport, you can take a taxi or bus. The stations serve the city exclusively, so once you arrive in Edinburgh, the Holyrood area and all others are conveniently available via the trains.
