Ferniehill is a suburb of Edinburgh, Scotland that is situated about eight kilometres south of the city centre, just west of Danderhall. The suburb is known for two things: Its large collection of doctors, and its bevy of nearby golf courses. Like most of the Edinburgh area, there are loads of accessible green spaces and scenic spots, including the massive Pentland Hills Regional Park that is located just a few kilometres to the west. With easy access to the city centre, Ferniehill is a great place to spend a day outside the city streets of Edinburgh.
- Take a stroll through Drum Park in Ferniehill, where visitors can enjoy well-kept trails that are flanked with plenty of Edinburgh greenery and occasional native wildlife.
- Play a round at the Liberton Golf Course near Ferniehill, which features a challenging 18-hole course spread over green undulating hills that provide a great venue for this ancient sport of Scotland.
- Stop at the old Mechanic Arms, a pub that dates back to the early 19th century and was previously called Mitchell’s, for a frosty pint of Scottish ale in an authentic Edinburgh pub atmosphere at a bar.
Getting to the suburb of Ferniehill is easy from central Edinburgh. Visitors can take any of the Gilmerton Road bus lines and get off at the Ferniehill Road stop that is just on the edge of the suburb. Visitors can also hire a car in Edinburgh or from the airport and make the drive over to Ferniehill. The suburb is connected to the city centre by both the A7 and A772. Cycling is extremely popular in Edinburgh, so visitors can also hire a bike in the city centre and take scenic bike paths all the way to Ferniehill.
