Edinburgh Castle hotels
Edinburgh Castle boldly stands atop a hill for all of Edinburgh to see. Visitors to Edinburgh Castle will walk the same halls as royalty did once upon a time. As time passed, the well-located complex became a military garrison and, now, an historic site. Several museums are located on the castle grounds. Hundreds of thousands of people visit Edinburgh Castle every summer to experience the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, which is comprised of musical and military drum performances. You will hear the One O’Clock Gun note the time at 13:00 daily except for Sundays, Good Friday, and Christmas Day.
- See the beautiful views of Edinburgh from St. Margaret’s Chapel, part of Edinburgh Castle and the oldest building in the city, built in the 1100s for private use by royal family members.
- Tour the National War Museum of Scotland, housed in a portion of Edinburgh Castle that used to be barracks but now serves as a historical and educational centre about Scotland’s military past.
- Watch the re-enactment of important events in Scottish history in the Great Hall of Edinburgh Castle.
Fly into Scotland via Edinburgh International Airport, located just west of Edinburgh. An Airlink Express bus transports guests from the airport to the city centre often throughout the day. A Lothian city bus can also bring you to and around town. Trains and cars provide alternative methods of getting to Edinburgh Castle from outside the area, though driving within the city can be frustrating and expensive. You may wish to travel between attractions using the tram or other public transportation. You may even want to walk, since most Edinburgh attractions are not more than 15 minutes apart.
