Church Hill hotels
In between the windswept hills in the richly historical Edinburgh is Church Hill, a friendly and theatrical neighbourhood in the south-western part of town. The Church Hill area is mostly renowned for its preservation of Georgian and Victorian architecture. All the villas along Church Street are either Victorian or Georgian with a few tenements that hold shops on the ground floor. One of the Edinburgh’s leading theatre groups uses an old neo-gothic building in Church Hill (formerly a church) for all its performances, obviously named the Church Hill Theatre. Ensconced firmly in the suburban landscape of Edinburgh, Church Hill is a comfortable retreat during a holiday.
- Come any time of year to the Church Hill Theatre to see a short play, musical act, or other authentic theatre performance in Edinburgh.
- On a bike tour of Edinburgh, the Bruntsfield Links just north of Church Hill Street past the Bruntsfield Crescent is quite pleasant on pleasant days.
- Watch or try your hand at cricket at the Carlton Cricket Club, just east of the main area of Church Hill.
The Edinburgh Airport serves both international and local flights and is the busiest airport in Scotland, located due east of Downtown. The Lothian Company has public buses to and from the airport, by day or night, servicing impromptu tours all over Edinburgh. Tour buses are open at the top, thus tourists can scope out their surroundings as they travel to their hotels. The buses have routes through Church Street and in the Church Hill area; however, it is important that you alert your tour bus driver if you plan to visit Church Hill. The Church Hill area is quite small and perfect for leisurely walks.
