Cammo is a suburb of Edinburgh, Scotland to the north-west of the city on the doorstep of the Edinburgh Airport. The area is most famous for the historic Cammo House, a former estate that was thought to be the inspiration for the House of Shaws in Kidnapped, the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. Being on the outskirts of the city, Cammo is full of rolling green meadows and leafy parks, creating an idyllic setting for recreational activities. Given the tranquil landscape, there are also quite a few golf courses in the area.
- Visit the Cammo Estate Park and see the ruins of the former estate buildings and garden walls, and roam the grounds, which feature meadows, leafy trees, and open woodland.
- Take a photo with the Cammo Tower, a well-preserved water tower originally built for the Cammo Estate in 1871 and reaching four-storeys high into the Edinburgh sky.
- Polish your skills at the Turnhouse Golf Course, which was designed by James Braid and offers views of the Pentlands, the Ochills, and planes taking off from the nearby Edinburgh Airport.
Cammo is located right next to the Edinburgh Airport and roughly 11 kilometres from the city centre of Edinburgh. From the airport, visitors can hire a car or take a taxi to their destination in Cammo. Regular bus service runs between the suburb and the city for visitors without cars or who would rather not drive. Lothian bus #41 stops close to the Cammo Estate, by the Royal Burgess Golf Course. Additionally, the South Gyle railway station is just south of the suburb for train rides into the city.
