Mercure translates as mercury. A metal, a commodity, something to be valued. Sadly the same cannot be said of my stay.
On arrival I was informed my booking did not include breakfast; would I like to pay extra for it? No I would not, and what's
more, no part of my booking confirmation stated that breakfast was not included. Not a good start.
On to the room. I'm staying the "modern" block, not the 15th century part. I say "modern" ... if your idea of modern is a fridge that isn't cold, towels with holes in them and peeling paintwork on the radiators, creaking central heating and noisy nieghbours, you'll be happy. I was not.
On the plus side, the bed was large and comfortable, there was buckets of hot water for a bath, and the aforementioned heating was at least effective, despite the noise
Overall, an aged and outdated hotel badly in need of updating to match its prices and its location. The youth hostel I stayed in the night before was no less comfortable and far better value

Unfortunately the food at breakfast
Unfortunately the food at breakfast was slow in coming and slow in being refilled so we did not get a chance to fully enjoy the full breakfast as we would have had to wait too long to have the trays refilled.
Otherwise the facilities were great.
