The beaches are always well populated during the summer months, but it’s the town's Victorian Pier that is the focal point. Over 360 metres in length with numerous cafés, arcades, and fun activities to keep families amused; plus offering great perspectives across the sea. Just to the west of the pier are the Marine Gardens, a peaceful haven to sit and people watch, away from the crowds. From any of the hotels in Clacton-on-Sea you will be in easy walking distance to all the attractions, including the town's two theatres, one of which at the West Cliff venue retains a real vintage style in its programming.
The oldest building still standing in Clacton is the quaint St Johns Church and well worth a visit. The annual Air show, which takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend each year, is a fabulous event to attend. A wonderful mixture of historic aircraft's such as: Lancaster's, Hurricane's and Spitfires, share the skies with Tornado's, wing-walkers and the world famous Red Arrows display team.
