Extremely disappointing experience

From room comfort (room was extremely tiny - it was really ridiculous), bed mattress was deformed and made my back hurt, A/C not working, the bed sheets were always poorly fitted, the room key card failed several times and always had to go back to the end of the queue in reception (also saw this happening to other guests), among other things I don't want to waste time describing. I travel a lot for work and it was by far the worst experience I had in a hotel (even 3 star hotels were much better than this). Even for £50/night I wouldn't understand this level of quality. Would never recommend it. Great internet though. The best I have ever experienced in a hotel. Location is also good, right in the center of Bristol. Didn't try the restaurant.

Good hotel but poor disabled access

The hotel was fine good location rooms Ok, staff helpful. The only downside was that one of our party had hurt a leg a few days before the visit and was in a wheelchair. The wheelchair access to the hotel was awful - up a steep metal ramp up the front steps that wasn't lined up with the entrance door so as you got to the top you had to do two 90 degree turns in a very constricted space. Going down was the reverse and very difficult. Really not good enough for 2015 - needs improvement

Hotel was a lot closer to everything that I thought! 5 minute walk to Cabot circus and in opposite direction about 10 min walk to the waterfront and aquarium, @bristol etc. Hotel was very easy to find, but had road works outside when we got there so couldn't get into that road for a while (not hotels fault, the diversion wa rubbish). Staff were lovely! We could use the spar up until 8pm the day we were staying and the same the day we checked out. Good parking. Only issue was that the room walls are a little thin, could hear person next door on the phone at 7am and packing. But he may have just been a bit loud. Would definitely go again!

Grand it is not !

Arrived for 2 day stay and found hotel to be very crowded due to wedding parties. The registry office is just across road so wedding parties are a constant. Car park is small and tight with room for only 6 cars on each level. The hotel has a red carpet to welcome guests but it is pointless as it is tattered and dirty. Check in took ages due to the amount of wedding party guests staying at hotel and also trying to check in. Two lifts that are small take you to your floor but you must request them several times to return to ground floor. Room tucked away in dark corner of hotel a long walk from lifts. Room was small , with smallest double bed that we have ever seen. Room very tatty with chipped and scratched furniture.Internet was useless. There was a china coffee cup but no saucer. We went out to eat and upon return , room cards would not work in door. Went to reception and they were changed immediately . Got the impression that this happens a lot. No apology from reception and when I asked if our bed was a double they assured me that it was. We didn't have breakfast as it was £14.00 per person .Lots of cafes close by selling breakfast at around £4.00 pp. Location was the only plus point about this hotel.

Shipshape and Bristol Fashion

Probably the best of the ten hotels we stayed at during our recent world trip. An 'old' hotel but very tastefully modernised. Well located and despite its central location and popularity for social functions it was a very peaceful place to stay. Front of house staff very professional but had a sense of humour and were very helpful. As with many hotels in the UK it helps to be multilingual if dealing with some staff: An attempt to obtain some milk resulted in pointless conversations in Hungarian and Slovakian (we think). Eventually we found a friendly Polish person (we think) and were able to converse with him in French.

Dining tip: In Hotel

Dont be put off by the expensive looking menu.. the staff will let you 'pick & choose' items and our dinners were not very expensive.

just right for top quality tourist experience

We stayed three nights to do the tourist thing, and were well looked after throughout by very professional staff. A 4 star hotel experience at a great price. We even watched the Man U v Real Madrid match from the luxury of red leather sofas in their cellar bar! Great location to explore the city, a short walk to the Old Vic Theatre.

OK

We had a one night weekend stay in The Grand. Its in a good location and got off to a great start with friendly staff. Unfortunately about 20 minutes in we realised that our toilet did not flush! I called reception and they sent up a staff member who played with it for 20 minutes, claimed it was fixed and left. Excellent we thought! - BUT Later, again we checked and our toilet was not flushing - at all. So we phoned again, and asked if we could change rooms. They said no, We're full - they'd send a maintenance man - we waited half an hour and then had to go out to dinner. We returned at 9:30pm assuming it would have been fixed, but it hadnt. We phoned and advised it still hadnt been fixed. At this point the duty manager came and finally offered us a room change and a free breakfast for our troubles. This was a good response, i just wish it had happened 4 hours earlier, as it's pretty hard to relax and settle into a place when your toilet doesnt work! The rest of the stay was OK. The complementary breakfast was OK - food was standard quality but the restaurant staff were nice. Probably a good place to stay if the amenities worked.
