Desperate for sleep

Couldn't sleep properly because of noise from generator / air con unit / not sure which - outside my bedroom window. Truly awful night. The first time in my life I have ever gone down to reception at 6.45 in the morning to complain in person. The night porters were sympathetic, the duty manager at seven a.m. was polite and went through the motions. She said I should have phoned the night porter at three in the morning and asked for a room change. Note, she didn't offer me a room change then, even though there were still four hours till check out. A room change (and perhaps a late check out?) would have made me feel that she cared in a more tangible way than the empty 'I'll pass on your complaint.'

Terrible nights sleep due to noise

I have stayed at this hotel in the past and had a good stay, so was bitterly disappointed to have such a bad experience this time. The room was adequate and spotlessly clean, check in quick and friendly and the public rooms were lovely. To be fair, I had a budget room, so didnt expect luxury, but I did expect the absolute basic for any hotel - a decent night's sleep. However, there was some sort of generator outside my window which seemed to work on hourly cycles. I hadnt noticed the noise till I came in at the end of a busy day, when listening to tv etc and phoning home masked it, then everything went quiet and I went to bed. I was woken at three in the morning, then again at four .. I put tissue in my ears ... the noise vibrated... at 6.45 I went down to reception to complain to the duty manager. She said that I should have rung the porter in the middle of the night and requested a room change, and that she would report my comments. I say I wont be staying there again.

definetly go to The Cube, located within the Mailbox shopping complex......all resturants overlook the canal and is a busy area in the evening. Can thoroughly reccommend Rodizio Rico a Brazilian resturant, a must for any carnivore !!

Couples

We have stayed at this hotel once before and had a great time, hence we came back. While there we had an incident that I must say was dealt with quickly, professionally and with little fuss. The staff are very friendly here and two other big pluses are location for shopping and the railway station and the period features. We will be back
