Great Hotel

Friendly helpful reception staff. On arrival I was advised to upgrade to dinner and breakfast included - - this saves money over in restaurant price. At check out, refund was made (without problem) for erroneous additional restaurant meal charge. I will continue to stay at the Metropole/Hilton as it is a pleasant place to stay and is ideally located for those flying into Birmingham to visit the NEC. No need for taxis, hire car or any other local transport costs.

Budget 4 Star Experience

I was staying here for an event and booked a single room with breakfast for one night. The room was situated in the 'Monarch Suite' end of the hotel, on the 2nd floor. As I'd stayed in this hotel several times before, I was expecting the room to be of a similar good standard to the twin and double rooms. However, the room was quite 'tired' looking, with a 3 inch long hole in the carpet at the centre of the room, the lamp didn't work (bulb gone?) and the only other light in the main room (over the bed) not fitted flush to the wall. The bathroom was small, but adequate, although the hair dryer was one of the old fashioned 'hose' type - attached to the wall, which just wasn't up to the job! Fortunately I wasn't intending to spend much time in my room, so the view wasn't of great importance, but the uninspiring vision of a massive metal building about 15 feet away from the window wasn't quite what I expected. There really was no other view at all. So, although I did get the room at a reduced rate, it was pretty disappointing. I certainly won't rush to repeat the experience. (I'd definitely avoid these Monarch suite single rooms). It's only fair to say though, that the staff were always polite and helpful and the room was clean. There was also an iron and ironing board, which was useful. The breakfast was good, nicely cooked and a good selection. Finally, I do expect wifi to be available free of charge as part of the facilities - (it's a 4 star business focused hotel) or at least for less than £14.99 for 24 hours.

Great location for a large function

Great location for a large function with no problems with competing functions at the same venue. The hotel is large enough to accommodate many functions at once. Very well laid out and very clean.

Nice hotel and quiet, however

Nice hotel and quiet, however on my arrival after 9pm I found the window in the room open and heating switched off, very cold. No mini bar, would have been a good option. But overall the single room on the small side but very good value for money at only at €51 including breakfast.

Convenient for a neaby conference

Convenient for a neaby conference not NEC but walking distance to the NEC. Courtesy pickup from Birmingham International. I had a single room which was clean, the bed was comfortable and the shower worked OK (shower curtain not screen). WIFI was not available from my room although was available from other rooms - there was also WIFI available in other public areas of the hotel. In general the food was very expensive but offset by the low price of the room for a single person I wouldn't have starved for an overnight stay. I needed to have a snack and decided not to pay £14 for a burger although i ordered a chocolate drink without looking at just under £5 ouch! Wedges and garlic dip £4.65. In comparison the breakfast at £10 was great value and was one of the best breakfasts I have had in over 50 hotel stays. I used the hotel as a simple overnight stay but would certainly look to use it again unless I needed to work on the internet from my room.

Not the best of experiences. The

Not the best of experiences. The hotel is actually being refurbished and finding the room was not easy. Also, the quality of the room (bathroom, bed etc) were not up to the Hilton standard. Staff was not very good, but helpful enough.

Excellently placed for either

Excellently placed for either the NEC or airport facilities. The staff are very helpful and the rooms are quiet and well appointed. My only annoyance on the last two occasions is the timing of the shuttle bus from Birmingham International - the drivers seem to be running 5 minutes too early and I have to wait another 20 mins. A lot when you have been travelling for 12 to 14 hours and wanting a bed asap.
