The museum of Barnstaple and North Devon is full of interesting items and although it is only a small building, it has a real diversity of collections on both floors, with regular overseas exhibitions; plus its location on the edge of the main square, means it is a hugely popular attraction. Clever distribution of space in another modest building, allows the Heritage Centre to display a wonderful historic line that makes fascinating viewing.
The Marwood Hill Gardens offer great walks amongst a variety of amazing plant life and wooded areas; but for a real eye-opener get over to the Broomhill Sculpture Garden, where some of the pieces are quite stunning, set on the hillside of a gorgeous valley. Close by is Exmoor Zoo, which is an interactive facility, allowing visitors to handle the animals, making the trip that bit more special.
