historic hotel in lovely town

The hotel is situated close to the Banbury Cross and is an easy walk from buses or short taxi ride from railway station. Staff welcoming and very helpful. Rambling hotel with newish, old and very old areas. Fun to wander through and pleasant garden at the rear. dined in their restaurant and would recommend it. My room was in a wing without a lift so there were a few stairs to climb but nothing steep. Room was fine with a large en suite bathroom. I was lucky to get a good winter bargain rate as normally a hotel of this substance would not be in my price range when travelling overseas.

The staff were lovely, the hotel

The staff were lovely, the hotel was clean, and the bed very comfortable. The furnishings and fittings are not the most modern, but everything works and does what it's supposed to do. My main quibbles were that there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room and no hairdryer (there was an iron and ironing board though), and the alarm call I requested never came through. On the plus side, they let me leave my car in their carpark long after I'd checked out, and the staff were very friendly and obliging. So, not the best hotel in the world, but far from the worst; and for less than £50/night, one can hardly complain about a few little imperfections.

We stayed in a junior suite which

We stayed in a junior suite which was nicely decorated and clean. I would not have wanted to pay over £100 for this room though as there was no air-conditioning, bathrobes, separate shower and the quilt on the bed was far too heavy. The room was generally clean but the glasses were dirty, probably due to the odd shape of them! The hotel itself is very tired in the public areas and once you start looking around you can see evidence of "making do" by a handyman everywhere. The plus is the location, right in the town centre. The carpark is a bit awkward but ample parking is available.
