Al Shindagha hotels
Dubai is perhaps best known as the site of Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. Infused with all its modernity, the city still has not forgotten its roots. Hidden in the traditional centre of this amazing urban centre is the Al Shindagha neighbourhood, an area where Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai between the years of 1912 and 1958, once lived. The monarch's residence currently serves as a public museum, and the neighbourhood is also home to the spectacular Heritage Village, a holidaymaker hotspot designed to showcase Dubai's past. The village attracts a large number of visitors during special events, such as the National Day celebrations.
- Visit Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum's former palace, which is one of Al Shindagha's, and Dubai's, biggest attractions, not to mention the best place to start a tour of this historical neighbourhood.
- Visit the area's Heritage Village and the Arabic art section to see incredible work by some of Dubai's best-known artists.
- The restaurants in the area are popular for their Persian cuisine and mouth-watering hummus, dishes that betray an Indian influence.
Al Shindagha is located at the traditional centre of Dubai, near the creek in Bur Dubai, which is situated a stone's throw from Al Shindagha tunnel. One way of getting to this scenic neighbourhood is by signing up for a boat tour, a service offered by Deira Marine Tours. Another option is to use abra, or boat taxis, and get off at the Al Sabkha B1 or B2 stations. Visitors can also opt to use a taxi, which are readily available all over the city. Another option is to use a hired car; a number of companies in the area offer excellent services at a reasonable cost.
