Carthage airport hotels
The Carthage Airport serves as an international gateway to the luxurious beach resorts and beautiful, classical ruins of Tunisia. The airport also serves as a popular stop-off for flights across Africa. It is Tunisia's only international airport, and is located about seven kilometres from Tunisia's capital city of Tunis. The Carthage Airport is named after the beautifully preserved ruins of the ancient city of Carthage, which lie just east of its terminals. The airport served 4.6 million people in 2010 to such popular holiday destinations as Dubai, London, Rome, and Frankfurt.
- Ride a connecting shuttle bus from the Carthage Airport to one of the neighbouring hotels, for a good night's sleep before exploring Tunisia.
- Grab a bite between flights on the first floor of the Carthage Airport, which contains a number of restaurants specializing in authentic Tunisian cuisine.
- Visit the city of Tunis or the nearby Carthage ruins, which include a Roman amphitheatre and the carved and stylized Tophet stones, believed to be an ancient site of human sacrifice.
Taxis are inexpensive and plentiful in Tunis. To ensure the best rates, discuss fares before accepting a ride. It is best to hail cabs, rather than accept rides from parked vehicles. Rental cars are also available at the airport and within the city. Rentals may be booked online with Hertz and Europcar, and those travelling in groups may hire Tunis shuttle buses for a reasonable fee. Buses are available within the city to most top destinations, and are an inexpensive travel option. The airport is not connected to the railway line, but visitors can access the train from the city.
