Satun is a town in Southern Thailand that is surrounded by lovely islands and a number of sites with exotic and fascinating attractions, which is fortunate because Satun itself has very few attractions that would be worthy of your blog or even an abbreviated Tweet. That said, you can find plenty of water activities along the Andaman coast, or venture out to Langkawi Island and explore the jungles or waterfalls or meditate in the Legend Garden.
- Satun’s Tarutao National Park
- Tammalang Jetty
- Perlis River
- Enjoy the spicy local cuisine at Satun town eateries
- Scuba dive around the Tarutao islands
- Take a ferry to Langkawi for the beautiful scenery
Like most of Thailand, the seasons are marked by rainfall rather than temperature changes. May through September is the monsoon season, when 26-30 cm of rain falls per month. The daily highs are usually 30-32°C, while nightly lows are 23-25°C, except in December and November, when 14°C is typical.
Getting There & Around
Langkawi and Hatyai International Airports are both about 50 km from Satun and reachable by minivan, bus or taxi. You can also take a train from Bangkok or Hatyai and finish the trip by bus. There are several express buses that drop passengers at the Satun Tammalang Pier, where they can catch a songtheaw or ferry to Satun.
It is possible to drive in the area, but cheap minivan and songtheaw taxis are quite abundant.
