Not a 5 star hotel

I was a little reluctant to book this hotel but there were so many good reviews so I thought it must be ok, it wasn't. The location while overlooking the sea is far from anything, it's a good 20 mins away from the main part of Ko samui. The food was ok but the cutlery is kept out all day on the tables which allows bugs to crawl all over them. The pool is small and the sun lounges scarce. The staff language skills could use a little more work... Lots of moments of confused looks on both sides...

Not 5 star by any stretch of the imagination

This hotel was ok however a far cry from a 5 star resort. The pool is small, the common areas are In need of some TLC.. It photographs well but looks can be deceiving. The resort is a fair distance from anything so be prepared to pay the mini bar prices for drinks etc... Hotel staff whilst friendly, could really benefit with some English classes so there isn't so much lost in translation.

Absolute Perfection!!

Hands down my stay at The Kala had all those attending my brother's wedding in Samui jealous and all have vowed they will stay there on next next visits. Location wise situated amongst the hills and selcluded beaches between Chaweng and Lamai made the resort perfect for quiet days of pure selfish bliss time, but just as easy and in a short drive you could be amongst the action on the island. Make sure you spend the little extra and indulge in a cooking class, it might seem a little pricey compared to some on the island but it will be the best lunch you'll have on the island. Your class will be private, you also have the choice from two menu options and both menus don't include the standard pad Thai that is made in all other cooking classes in Thailand.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

If not renting a scooter for your stay, get in the know on catching the local buses. Never pay more than 100 baht. Have it roles in your palm say than you while handing it over and walk away. Locals pay alot less than that and 100 baht is more a massive tip.
