Wat Phra Sing hotels
The Buddhist temple of WatPhra Sing is found in the Thai city of Chiang Mai and has been bestowed with the prestige of Royal Temple of the First Order. Originally constructed in 1345 by King Pha Yu as a final resting place for his father, King Kam Fu’s remains, it was initially called Wat Li Chiang Phra. This name was changed to WatPhra Sing after the PhraSihing Buddha image was housed here. This is one of the city’s most important temples and a must for anyone who really wants to get to know Thai and Buddhist culture.
- Be astounded by the intricately carved entrance to WatPhra Sing’s main prayer hall, decorated with exquisite devata figures that are carved in meditative and dancing poses.
- Visit HoTrai, what is said to be one of Chiang Mai’s and Thailands most beautiful libraries and one of the best examples of classical Lanna architecture.
- Wihan Lai Kham is known mainly for housing the beautiful PhraSihing Buddha image, though this building is much more than that and has some of Chiang Mai’s best murals.
Chiang Mai is Thailand’s second city and connected to Bangkok by motorway and rail. Buses range from rusting, overcrowded budget options to air-conditioned western standard touring coaches. Rail is most people’s choice of transport and the train takes between 12 and 14 hours to wend its way north through the jungles of central Thailand. There are flights landing here from Bangkok and a few from some of the neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh, Burma and China. WatPhra Sing is located within the old city walls and therefore easily reached on foot from the station.
