Dining

Thiptara
Shipped from the ancient Thai capital of Ayutthaya, the steep-roofed open-sided salas were reassembled as the riverside Thai restaurant, Thiptara. Set on teak decking around a banyan tree, each holds just two tables, ensuring intimate dining by candlelight, or sit at open river bank tables for a sublime view. Forget you're in the middle of Bangkok, and discover why so many guests rate this the city's best for home-style Thai cooking.
River Cafe and Terrace
Close your eyes and let your senses define the experience of dining al fresco on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, with the long tail boats zipping past. Choose between international dinner buffets or all-day la carte meals in cool air-conditioned relaxed comfort, or sit outside and enjoy the night skyline by candlelight. Start with drinks at the open air River Bar and allow yourself to be beguiled by Bangkok.
Lobby
The lobby serves a wide selection of light meals and the traditional Peninsula afternoon tea, accompanied by live classical music.
The Pool Bar
Ideal for relaxing and unwinding.
Mei Jiang
Cantonese food lovers will be charmed by Mei Jiang's interior, with light streaming through long latticed windows opening onto an ornamental pool, reflecting the Chinese and Thai affinity with water. Expect the best from the culinary team who specialise in dim sum and abalone dishes. Five lavishly and richly decorated private dining rooms can be converted into one for larger gatherings.

“Great, as long as you can get a good rate”

An excellent, traditional-style Grand Hotel. Reminds me a bit of the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong BEFORE it was renovated five-or-so years ago - the Peninsula is a bit old but the rooms, etc, are excellently maintained. Things like built-in fax machines, buttons to press for "valet" service next to the bath tub, an integral shoe-cupboard to leave shoes for overnight polishing, just don't exist in modern hotels. Impressed by the large size of the standard room (even by Bangkok standards), silent air-con (very rare in even the newest hotels), all surfaces clean and dust-free, the absence of advertising leaflets scattered all over the room, a lights master-switch that actually does switch off all the lights in one go (again, how rare is that!), and good strong Wi-Fi signal. On the downside, the shower water leaked out onto the bathroom floor, soaking the bath mat every time I was surprised that there is no bar or restaurant on top floor for guests to use (it's apparently a private function room) while the pool has a "quiet area" many guests simply ignore that (endless mobile phone chatter) and the staff don't enforce it, plus smoking seems to be allowed everywhere at the pool which is annoying (unless you're a smoker). If you can get a discounted rate (I paid £120 per night including breakfast, service and taxes) it has to be the best hotel in town overall.

Superb week by the river

The Peninsula's quality, administration and service is unsurpassed. The buffet on the riverside terrace is excellent for each meal. The complimentary river boat service is so convenient for travel to the Skytrain and Asiatique night market. The hotel was considerably better value for the money than adjacent five-star hotels.

The hotel provides a complimentary river boat service to and from the Asiatique night market and restaurant area every evening where you find a variety of restaurants and shopping. Makes for a very convenient and interesting night out.

A few days in Bangkok before going home after travelling

Because of overbooking and we were a family group of 3 adults, 1 child, we were upgraded to The Peninsula Suite on level 34, 364 square metres on sheer luxury. being the largest suite in the hotel. We had a wonderful experience staying in such a magnificent suite at such a grand hotel. Everything was first class. The location, the swimming pool, several restaurants - we tried three and they were excellent, the little shuttle ferries for crossing the river, room service, reception, the hotelgym (although our suite had its own gym overlooking the river!) buffet breakfast delicious with a huge range of foods to suit anyones taste.

Peninsula luxury experience

The room was very comfortable with everything you could expect at this level of hotel.Pool situated on the river a nice spot for watching the world float by. Excellent shuttle boat service across the Chao Praya .Great buffet breakfasts, lunch and dinner menus good. My only negative would be the prices for the spa treatments and massages , with so many excellent alternatives in the city at a fraction of the cost , I chose to take the skytrain to a much less expensive option. Would definitely return.
