Bangkok's Khaosan Road is the beloved road of the backpacking community in Thailand. The place offers a respite for budget travellers who have been exploring the country's various regions for months. Here, travellers can exchange stories and plot their next conquest. Khaosan stretches 1 kilometre and is filled with guesthouses, small hotels, travel agencies, restaurants, bars and clubs. It's also a great place for cheap shopping with several stores and stalls selling handcrafts, clothes, paintings, second-hand books and other travel items. The district’s youthful atmosphere is vibrant, carefree, and infectious, making it quite a standout from other city areas.
- Experience Khaosan's nightlife, where you can find a wide range of entertainment and party venues; from the upscale bars and clubs like Gazebo, Silk Bar and The Club, to ghetto hippie bars around corners.
- Visit Banglamphu Market, a Bangkok shopping haven that houses shops peddling inexpensive Thai retail items like clothes and souvenirs, and second hand book stores, which sell bestsellers and travel guides like pancakes.
- Tour around Bangkok prominent sights in and nearby Khaosan like the Democracy Monument that commemorates the 1932 military coup; and the sacred Buddhist temple of Wat Chana Songkram.
Khaosan Road can be found in the Phra Nakhon district of the Banglamphu region. Because of its popularity and close proximity to other premier city attractions, it has become a transport hub. Coaches from major tourist destinations like Chiang Mai and Ko Pha Ngan, make their daily stops at this road. In addition, regular public buses from other parts of Bangkok serve this road. Visitors can also ride the Chao Phraya Express Boat from the Sathorn pier and get off from Phra Arthit pier. From here, Khaosan is only a just few minutes' walk away.
