Jim Thompson House
The Jim Thompson House is a Bangkok museum dedicated to Jim Thompson, the industrious American businessman who spearheaded the development of Thailand's silk industry. Whilst building his legendary Thai Silk Company, Thompson amassed a fabulous collection of Southeast Asian art that he would eventually display in his amazing home, which was constructed in 1959 from sections of traditional antique Thai houses that were also part of his unusual collection. Jim mysteriously disappeared whilst on holiday in 1967, but his amazing house, which is located across from the National Stadium, is still one of the city's most popular attractions.
- Admire breathtaking Buddhist sculptures, antique paintings from the Bangkok School movement, and countless pieces of lovely Chinese porcelain pottery in the Jim Thompson House art collection.
- Stroll the lush jungle gardens boasting ficus, palm and banana trees, bamboo, and other tropical flora on the expertly landscaped grounds surrounding the Jim Thompson House in Bangkok.
- Explore Thompson's huge and fascinating Thai style house, which features a traditional steeped roof and arched doorways, and meticulously carved wooden accents throughout the interior.
Air travellers will land at Suvarnabhumi Airport, which is 34 kilometres from Jim Thompson House via the 2nd State Expressway and Route 7. Depending on the time of day, you can use the 163 or 529 buses in connection with the airport Metro Link as an inexpensive way to get to and from the airport. The Bangkok City Line commuter rail and high speed Express Line trains are also good alternatives to using a taxi. Jim Thompson House is right in the city Centre, so it is easily accessible by the Sky Train, bus, tuk-tuk or taxi.
