Bangkok Chinatown hotels
A popular tourist attraction and food haven, Bangkok’s Chinatown is busy during the day and definitely after sundown. The area is packed with street-side restaurants, shoulder-to-shoulder open air market stalls, gold shops, and many temples—but it’s the energy in Chinatown that is addictive. Shoppers will find anything they could possibly need or want to buy during the day, and foodies can keep eating well into the evening. You will want to come back over and over for more, and you will. Major festivals such as Chinese New Year make the street shine with smiles and light.
- Taste bits of China at the street vendors –you’ll be both impressed and surprised at what you can find there—many of the restaurants stay open long into the night.
- liSee the Golden Buddha, hidden for 200 years under a layer of plaster and now shining again at the Wat Traimit temple.
- Glimpse at the past at the Yaowarat Chinatown Heritage Centre, which details the history of the Chinese presence in Bangkok.
From downtown Bangkok, the most convenient way to Chinatown is by underground train to the Hua Lamphong station. The railway above ground has the same name and is where trains meet from all over Thailand. Once there, you’ll find that Chinatown is crowded and busy almost 24-hours a day. You will want to walk, and take normal precautions when dealing with crowds. The many market stalls and street vendors mean missing out on the atmosphere if you try to get around the area by bicycle, car, or motorbike.
