Dining

Avenyn No1
There is no doubt about it. Avenyn No1 is Goteborg's new meeting place. A Mecca for those who want to see and be seen, where classical meets trendy in several bars, restaurants, and even a conference floor. All of this in one of Gteborg's most beautiful buildings, built in 1881 and located across the street from the hotel. The environment is a trip inspired by the 14th century poet Dante Alighieri and his work Divina Commedia (the Divine Comedy), which describes a walk through hell and purgatory to paradise.
The Rose & Crown
The Rose & Crown is a very popular English pub with genuine atmosphere, located adjacent to the hotel. As a Hotel guest, you can enter The Rose & Crown directly via our reception.
Glow
The ultimate night club. A place where you can have a drink, meet friends, and get caught up by the atmosphere and dance the night away.
Brasserie Lipp
Year after year, Brasserie Lipp keeps its position as the favourite meeting place for everyone who enjoys an ambient French atmosphere. With impressive views of the never ending crowds on The Avenue, you will find a large, lovely bar and a restaurant that can accommodate both small and large groups. Direct entrance from the hotel lounge.

Cool and funky and handy

Loved it. Walked to it from Gothenburg Central (train) station, which took a *little* longer than anticipated (phone charged and GPS-able would have sorted that) and, as I approached the street, initially thought it seemed out of the way. Until I turned the corner. At that point, I discovered it's on a vibrant street with myriad dining options. Already good. It's also 5 minutes walk from the historic Haga district, 5 minutes across the bridge from the central shopping district, 10 mins (tops) from Liseberg and possibly the best roller coaster in the world (Helix), or from Universeum if you've kids to entertain with Science'n'stuff (but they'll want to be on the roller coasters next door)... Sumptuous breakfast buffet. Sole 'issue' is the rather stunning room I was in had a LOT of black features: floor, furniture, lower half of walls...which, when everything you own is black, makes life, er, interesting! :) Camouflaged lifts (they look like bookcases, so you step from the lift, go to your room for the first time, then re-emerge to head downstairs and wonder where the lifts went?!) and jungle insect noises in the corridors (instead of muzak) make for amusing touches too.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Vegetarian/Vegan? There is a *great* all you can eat buffet in what looks like a converted pub just off the main street in the Haga district (the parallel street, one block closer to the city CBD).

Good hotel at a great location

The hotel is at the center of town, surrounded by shopping and dining areas. I had a one-person room, which was of course small but clean. The view was not great, but as I was out of the hotel most of the day, it was not an issue. The room was very quiet. There was everything you needed in the room: kettle, tea, coffee, water, phone, tv, etc. It was possible to adjust the room temperature, air conditioner worked well. The bed was not the most comfortable one, but I have seen worse. The bathroom was simple, but clean, included soap, shampoo, hair dryer and of course towels. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast included scrambled eggs and bacon, plus muesli, cereals, different yoghurts, coffee, tea - so regular Scandinavian stuff. The only thing that I did not like was that the parking was just too expensive. I expected that it would be cheaper for hotel clients and that made my overall stay more expensive than I planned. There is virtually no option to park for less money nearby, even though the surrounding areas are packed with parking houses and parking lots. And in case you park anywhere else besides the hotel parking house, be careful - my car was "visited" already on the second day in town, at the Focus parking house. All-in-all it was a good hotel and will certainly consider staying there for my next visit in Gothenburg.
