Like many hot spots along Costa del Sol, Torremolinos started out as a humble fishing village before the arrival of the tourism industry in the 1960s. The town has enjoyed the reputation for being one of the most gay-friendly resort areas since the 1950's, and its vibrant gay nightlife still attracts diverse revellers to the Nogalera complex. Beach-loving holidaymakers will want to head for La Carihuela Beach and the Fisherman's Quarter, which is also the best spot for “foodies” and seafood-lovers as there is a smorgasbord of restaurants, cafes, and pescaíto frito stands in this district.
- Learn about crocodiles and have a chance to touch a baby croc at the Crocodile Farm, one of the most inexpensive family-friendly venues in Costa del Sol.
- Admire more than 500 species of trees in the arboretum and hundreds of birds including falcons, owls, parrots, and rare Golden Pheasants in the aviaries of the Molina De Inca Botanic Garden.
- Enjoy exhilarating water rides, lay games, and interact with cuddly, playful sea lions at Aqualand Torremolinos, a refreshing family-oriented theme park in Costa del Sol.
Malaga International Airport is only eight kilometres from Torremolinos using the A7 and MA-21 Motorways, and you can also use the local buses and trains if you do not want to drive. The Torremolinos bus service will take you around the city centre and as far as two kilometres outside the city limits, so you will have to transfer at outlying stations to reach the airport and other destinations further out. You can also catch a commercial tour coach at the bus station to visit anywhere on the Costa del Sol coast, and walk or bike around the city centre.
