Puerta de Toledo
Puerta de Toledo is a 19 metre monumental gate situated at the southwest region of Madrid. Made of granite and Colmenar stone, the rounded archways of this structure pay homage to the old Madrid. Its construction started in 1812 during the Napoleonic governance of Joseph Bonaparte, and was completed in 1827 under the rule of Fernando VII. The sculptures on top of the central arch facing the south depict the medieval dominance of the Spanish monarchy. The area around Puerta de Toledo is a great lodging place for tourists as it offers various accommodations that suit all sorts of budgets.
