Built in the mid-1800s, the Plaza de Oriente, or “East Square,” is one of the most visited landmarks in Madrid. One of the plaza’s defining characteristics is its avenue of imposing sculptures featuring the likeness of past kings and queens. Along with the statuary art, the Plaza de Oriente offers an open-air destination for relaxing and walking, and the park is popular with both local residents and visitors. Grab a quick meal whilst enjoying the stunning views of the plaza at the Cafe de Oriente, which sits alongside the square.

International and domestic air traffic to Madrid arrives at Madrid-Barajas International Airport. From this facility, visitors may take a 24-hour bus service to the downtown district or purchase a ticket on the commuter train to reach just about any destination within the city. Thanks to the massive Metro system, guests may easily reach the Plaza de Oriente via the subway to the Opera station, then walking from the nearby Plaza de Espana. Those who travel by bus can take routes 3, 15, or 20 to visit the Plaza de Oriente.
