Plaza de Oriente hotels
Plaza de Oriente
Built in the mid-1800s, the Plaza de Oriente, or “East Square,” is one of the most visited landmarks in Madrid. One of the plaza’s defining characteristics is its avenue of imposing sculptures featuring the likeness of past kings and queens. Along with the statuary art, the Plaza de Oriente offers an open-air destination for relaxing and walking, and the park is popular with both local residents and visitors. Grab a quick meal whilst enjoying the stunning views of the plaza at the Cafe de Oriente, which sits alongside the square.
- Visit the Royal Palace, located alongside the Plaza de Oriente, to see the palace that served as the private residence of Madrid’s royal family for nearly two hundred years.
- Admire the impressive statue of King Philip IV sitting upon a large horse at the centre of the Plaza de Oriente.
- Enjoy the native flowers of Madrid on a walk though the Central Gardens and the Cabo Naval Gardens of the plaza.
International and domestic air traffic to Madrid arrives at Madrid-Barajas International Airport. From this facility, visitors may take a 24-hour bus service to the downtown district or purchase a ticket on the commuter train to reach just about any destination within the city. Thanks to the massive Metro system, guests may easily reach the Plaza de Oriente via the subway to the Opera station, then walking from the nearby Plaza de Espana. Those who travel by bus can take routes 3, 15, or 20 to visit the Plaza de Oriente.
