The Arganzuela district is a section of the city of Madrid that is home to several of the area’s most impressive attractions and sights. Since the sector is located near the Manzanares River, it offers beautiful views of the waterfront, making it a prime tourist destination. Within the area visitors will find several points of interest, including the Bahia Madrid water facility, which offers swimming and water polo activities. Each September local residents in Arganzuela hold the Melonera Festival that includes, among other things, sporting and musical events, to which tourists are welcome to attend and join in on the festivities.
- Walk along the Arganzuela Footbridge, an artistic pedestrian bridge made of two enormous metal cones that intertwine over a walkway in Arganzuela Park.
- Tour the Matadero Madrid, a contemporary art space, to see exhibits of cutting-edge fashion and independent films from local artists.
- Visit the Arganzuela’s Madrid Planetarium, where you can see projections of the night sky and exhibitions about planets in the solar system.
Flying into the Arganzuela area is pretty simple for visitors from other countries. Madrid-Barajas International Airport is the largest airport in the area and offers air travel from several international locations. After arriving, visitors can take a 24-hour express bus service directly to the city centre. The Cercanías Madrid commuter train service also offers direct connections to the city. One of the easiest ways to get around the Arganzuela district is for travellers to take line six of the underground Metro system, which stops at the Arganzuela-Planetario station and offers easy access to much of the area.
