The province of Castellón is a remarkable city in Spain, with many fine points of interest to discover. The full name of the capital is Castellón de la Plana and the main landmarks in the city of 170,000 people are the Basilica of Santa María del Lledó and 13th century Concatedral de Santa Maria. For most visitors to Castellón however, the Costa del Azahar is the primary reason to see this superb part of Mediterranean Spain.
As a result, the first stop for many is often Benicàssim, whose annual Festival Internacional is one of the most important music festivals in Europe. The beach resort town is fine place to relax and soak up some sun. Peníscola serves the same purpose but also has a medieval castle to explore, in what many call the Gibraltar of Valencia. Other popular stops on the Castellón coast include Benicarló, Vinaroz and Oropesa del Mar.
