Plaza de Espanya hotels
Plaza de Espanya
Situated just outside the centre of Barcelona, Plaza de Espanya is at the junction of four major roads: Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, Carrer de Tarragona, Carrer de la Creu Coberta, and Avinguda del Paral lel. Designed by Ramon Reventos y Farrarons and built in 1929, it's one of the most important and widely visited squares in Barcelona, attracting attention thanks to its two tall and striking Venetian towers, inspired by Venice’s Campanile of San Marco. Make the square one of your stops in Barcelona and benefit from its magnificent architecture, the famous fountain, and the several monumental sculptures.
- Check out Josep Maria Jujol's epic fountain with its three impressive columns standing for Religion, the Arts, and Heroism, as well as Miquel Blay's striking statues representing water, the ocean, sea, and coasts of Spain.
- Visit the Parc de Joan Miró, situated very near Plaza de Espanya in Barcelona, and pay attention to the beautiful Woman and Bird statue in its centre.
- Take the opportunity to attend one of the numerous trade fair shows and exhibitions in Barcelona which takes place in the area.
Getting to Plaza de Espanya is easy as most metro lines and buses stop close by. If you're trying to get to the square by metro, then take lines L1, L3, L8 and look for stop Espanya. Most buses in Barcelona visit the square on a very regular basis, so take any line among 7, 9, 13, 23, 27, 30, 34, 36, 37, 43, and 193 and you'll be there very soon. The train is also available, and lines C1, C2, C3, and C4 will leave you near the Plaza de Espanya.
