Dreta de l'Eixample hotels
Once an old quarter of Spain’s medieval Barcelona City, Eixample was comprehensively redesigned during the mid-19th century and now encompasses the entirety of the space lying outside the old city, which had once been reserved exclusively for defence purposes. Today, this redesigned quarter has a brand-new modern look, with labyrinthine rectangular blocks infamous for getting first-time travellers turned around amidst Eixample’s lavish architecture and vibrant local culture. Although Eixample has indeed become one of Spain’s most cutting-edge examples of modern urban planning, it has nevertheless retained an historic architectural flavour that attracts thousands of visitors back to this charming city every year.
- Visit Passeig de Gracia Eixample, Barcelona’s most elegant avenue comprised of breathtaking architectural styles and big-name fashion boutiques like Loewe, Chanel, Hermès, and more.
- Explore La Pedrera, one of famed architect Gaudi’s avant-garde masterpieces, which includes a decorative rooftop terrace, panoramic city views, and showcases some of the artist’s most famous works.
- Admire a unique collection of guitars and rare musical instruments at the Museu de la Musica, or Music Museum.
Travelling through Eixample is easy thanks to Barcelona’s highly efficient public transportation systems. Metro trains run to almost all areas of the city and also connect with RENFE (above-ground) trains. Visitors travelling to Eixample along either Metro or RENFE trains should get off at Passeig de Gracia, Sagrada Familia, or Avinguda Tibidabo. Bus and tram systems also service the majority of the city and can transport travellers to Plaça de Catalunya, close to the Eixample quarter. Additionally, a free double-decker bus (Bus Turistic) services Eixample, as well as other major tourist spots all over the city. Finally, Metered taxis are readily available all over Barcelona.
