Ciutat Vella hotels
Ciutat Vella is a ceaseless chapter of medieval Spanish history, a refreshing diversion from chaotic modernity, and a delicious treat for the senses. “See” her marvellous Gothic-styled monuments. “Smell“ her seductive aromas. “Taste“ her traditional culinary specials. “Feel” her cobblestoned roads. Ciutat Vella (“Old City” in Catalan) is located in the centre of Barcelona and, as the name suggests, the city’s oldest district. It is sub-divided into four quarters, which make it one of the most visited places in Spain, namely La Barceloneta, El Barri Gòtic, El Raval, and the fourth comprised of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina, and la Ribera.
- Experience the best of bohemian Barcelona on the Pablo Picasso Walking Tour, and explore the artist’s favourite Ciutat Vella haunts.
- View a myriad of fish species, sharks, and penguins at Barcelona’s L’Aquarium, Europe’s second largest and a hit with kids.
- Learn about the best and worst events in Catalan maritime history at the Raval Maritime Museum.
As Ciutat Vella is considered the city centre of Barcelona, it is served by most modes of public transport. Plaça Catalunya is the nearest transportation hub for subway trains and buses (including the Aerobus from the airport). However, visitors coming in by underground or bus also have the luxury of two other nearby points, namely Plaça Urquinaona and Plaça Universitat. Metered taxis, some operating 24 hours, can also be found at taxi stands, main bus and subway terminals, and near major hotels. Reputable car hire services are available at several places across the city as well.
