The sprawling district of Yeoksam is a real eye-opener for first-time visitors, with a skyline that contains some of the tallest structures in all of Seoul. This huge city contains some wonderful buildings, as well as some of the best shopping experiences in all of Asia. Streets like Insadong and Itaewon are immensely busy for both retail and cuisine from across the world. Myeongdong is home to twice-yearly festivals, whilst Namdaemun, also referred to as the Great South Gate after its enormous ornate entrance, offers South Korea's oldest market, open 24 hours a day.
- Climb to the top of the Seoul N Communications Tower in the centre of Yeoksam and enjoy the remarkable panoramic views from the circular observation platform.
- Spend some time people watching from the fantastic open space of Yeoksam’s Gwanghwamun Square, full of impressive statues, synchronised fountains, and the perfect meeting place.
- Take the thrilling Namsan Cable Car ride to the mountain top in just a matter of minutes and sample the quite incredible views of the mighty city of Seoul in all its glory.
The Seoul underground system is modern, reliable, punctual, clean, and safe, plus it is very fast and extensive; you can get virtually anywhere in double-quick time. Buses run from 5.30 am until midnight all across Yeoksam. Their destination is written in English, which is crucial as very few drivers speak English. Taxis are cheap and some have an interpretation service, which is, again, very useful. The city is the hub of South Korea's rail network, with the KTX operating as the country's bullet train, connecting the city all across the nation.
