Rising majestically to a height of 262 meters, Namsan in Seoul, South Korea is one of the main natural attractions tourists come to this area to see. Towering above the surrounding landscape, the peak of this mountain affords a one of a kind scenic view of Seoul. The name Namsan literally means "South Mountain", and a visit to the summit should definitely be included if you’re invested in outdoor activity and seeing the city from a distance. While the mountain offers plenty of opportunities for tourists to hike and enjoy nature, there are several places below in the surrounding parks for all seasons that may strike your interests as well.
- While in this part of Seoul, one can’t miss the enormous Mongmyeoksan Beacon Tower; a smoke signalling station that was in use until 1985 for emergency smoke-signal communications.
- Namsan Parkwas used for on-location filming of the Korean soap opera, Lovers in Paris, making the fountain a popular location for local fans of the television drama to visit.
- Take a cable car from Hoehyeon-dong to the N Seoul Tower, a height of 138 metres, to get a rare view of the great city of Seoul and its surrounding areas.
To reach Namsan, travellers have several options including air travel (by way of Gimpo Airport or Incheon International Airport), ferry (via the port city, Incheon) or train (via the KTX High Speed Line). There are also five bus depots in Seoul as well as taxis and rental vehicles. Upon reaching Seoul, visitors to Namsan can reach the various attractions there by hiking or by using the Namsan cable car to reach the top of the mountain where the N Seoul Tower, Teddy Bear Museum, and Love Padlock Trees are located.
