Namdaemun is known as South Korea's most important National Treasure, and its residents refer it to as The Great South Gate and the symbol of Seoul. Namdaemun is one of the Eight Gates that are part of the ancient ramparts that have fortified the city since the 14th century. This celebrated monument is located in the Jung district, part of the historic centre of Seoul, which contains several old palaces including Deoksu Palace, which serves as the City Hall, and the striking Deoksu-gung, a 15th-century structure noted for its unique blend of eastern and western architectural styles.
- Buy children's clothing and accessories, digital cameras and associated gear, and fantastic Korean foods at the world-renowned Namdaemun Market, in central Seoul.
- Enjoy a panoramic view of the city from N Seoul Tower, where visitors and locals can view the seasonal colours of the surrounding countryside as well as the majestic Namsan Mountain.
- Shop for fashions, jewellery, home décor, electronics, and much more in Dongdaemun shopping district, which boasts at least 20 large department stores including Migliore and Doota.
Namdaemun is just over an hour by bus from Incheon Airport, which is also served by the A'REX train that stops in Seoul Station and provides connections to Gimpo Airport. Air travellers should be aware that trains and buses stop service right after the last plane lands, so it may be necessary to take the more expensive taxis during the wee morning hours. Travellers from other parts of Asia can also arrive in the city by ferry or long-distance bus or train. Seoul has an excellent public transit network that covers the entire metro area via subway and bus.
