Gwangjin

Gwangjin is a district located in the eastern-central part of Seoul, South Korea. It sits on the Han River and is a terminus for the Olympic Bridge, which was supposed to commemorate the1988 Olympic games but was not completed until 1990. Gwangjin district was inhabited as early as 57 A.D., during the Three Kingdoms period, as evidenced by findings at Acha Mountain Fortress. Today’s it is a modern and youthful district sporting several shopping centres and two universities. It is very well connected to the city’s public transport system, which makes it a convenient district to visit.

  • Shop for electronics at Gwangjin’s Techno Mart, a huge techie paradise shopping centre that has 2,000 shops and 8 floors of mobile phones, computers, CD’s and DVD’s and game arcades.
  • Take the kids and go play at Seoul’s Children’s Grand Park, in Gwangjin, where you can visit a zoo, tour a botanical garden, enjoy the rides at the amusement park and splash around at the water playground.
  • Visit Achasanseong Fortress, where you can get an impressive view of Seoul from the 200-metre summit, and learn about the fortress from the historical markers on its paths.

The Incheon International Airport accommodates many domestic and international flights. You can get from this Seoul airport into the city via train, bus or taxicab and connect to other Korean cities by train, including some high-speed routes. Public transportation within the city consists of metro subway, bus and taxicab. The metro is your best bet, as it avoids highway traffic jams and is served by three subway lines and several bus routes. The journey takes about 90 minutes. Once in town, you can see most of Gwangjin’s attractions by walking, as the area is not overly spread out.
