Table Mountain hotels
For hundreds of years people have looked at the majestic Table Mountain and dreamed of standing at its apex. The first to do so was a 16th century Portuguese explorer and since then millions of visitors have seen the panoramic views of Cape Town from Table Mountain's level plateau. Although many visitors still hike to the top, most now take the Table Mountain Cableway from Tafelberg Road to the top of the mountain where they are treated to unmatched views of Table Bay, Robben Island and the Atlantic Ocean. The plateau makes an imposing and beautiful backdrop for this beautiful city.
- Ascend Table Mountain from the Atlantic Ocean side on the Kasteelspoort trail, with beautiful views of the affluent Cape Town suburb, Camps Bay.
- Rock climb on the cliffs below the upper cable station for an exhilarating rush and death defying views of Cape Town.
- Explore the Wynberg Caves, a system of sandstone caves located on the Back Table, and a favourite among cavers.
There are many ways to get to Table Mountain from the city, whether you want to go to the top or just look up from the base. The Hop on Hop off bus service leaves from Cape Town's city centre and takes passengers to Table Mountain with stops at the sights along the way. Some people choose to take hired car or taxi and many taxis will wait at the base to get the return fare. There is a shuttle bus that goes directly from the Cape Town International Airport to the Civic Centre Station for those arriving by plane.
